To the Governor and Legislative leaders of the State of Indiana,
We support Tara Sheley, an Indiana institutional health care patient, in her quest to return to her home and live the remainder of her days with her mother, her friends and her community. We believe that all Americans, regardless of their age or level of disability are "endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness." We believe that in only those cases where a patient is unable to decide for themselves and have no loved ones to decide for them that it becomes for the state to intervene. However, Tara has her full mental facilities and we support her in her decision to go home.
We also understand that under the Medicaid system the state of Indiana as well as other states in the country, save precious taxpayer dollars by allowing people to live in their communities. While we understand that there are some individual cases which may cost the state more to keep at home on the whole the state would continue to save entitlement dollars. We urge you to change Indiana's current institutionally biased Medicaid program to one that is "Choice Centered" to better reflect the values of the people of Indiana and of these United State
In conclusion we ask that you give Tara the necessary help that she needs to live her final years at home surrounded by her loved ones.
