AT least once a week, Joe Stango guides his mother’s wheelchair out the front door of her Southbury, Conn., nursing home, along a concrete path, past a church and a busy intersection to a Starbucks. He buys her a double-tall nonfat caramel macchiato and they sit and talk about the grandchildren. Then it’s back to the nursing home.
